The Scariest Night of my Life

Last night was a normal night until Zoe woke up at 1:30 screaming. Usually if she wakes up upset, she calms down as soon as I pick her up. That was not the case last night. She continued to scream, but that was not the scary part. She was gasping for air and couldn't seem to get a good breath. She sounded like a mix between wheezing and honking like a goose. At this point Brandon was up and getting a bottle ready for Zoe. I thought that maybe if I could give her a bottle to calm down, she would be able to breathe better...nope. She started drinking, then coughing, then gasping for air once again. I dressed myself in a hurry, wrapped some blankets around Zoe and headed for the Emergency Room. I hadn't cried at this point (probably due to shock) but as soon as I walked into the ER I could barely talk I was crying so hard. Zoe was still wheezing but had stopped crying so she was able to breathe a bit easier. We found out she has Croup. So, after 2 breathing treatments, a steroid shot, a prescription, and 4 hours of observation, we went home. As I crawled into bed, Brandon's alarm went off. Luckily Brandon was able to take the morning off so I could sleep for a little bit. Zoe is doing fine now and looking at her today you wouldn't even know she went to the ER last night. Well, all I can do now is be extremely grateful that she is ok and it was something that was easily taken care of...even if it did terrify me.

I think that I would have been peeing in my pants and notable to think at all - and then worried that I was over reacting - I am so glad that I have a sensable husband!
